Safe, Stable, Secure: What HNWIs Should Know About Gibraltar.

Safety is a premium in today’s world. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have shown that security is fragile, and HNWIs have taken notice.

It is one of the reasons why, here at Hassans, we have received heightened interest from HNWIs looking for a safe place to call home. Several are already in the process of moving to Gibraltar with the help of Hassans’ know-how.

These HNWIs are attracted to Gibraltar for a number of reasons, but safety and security are at the top of the list. And Gibraltar is safe in more ways than one.

Most importantly, violent crime and street violence are rare. Gibraltar consistently ranks in the top 10 safest places on Earth, and not without reason (Safety Index 2026 | Global Residence Index). Even petty urban crime, like the theft of phones and personal belongings, is rare in comparison with other European cities. Low crime encourages business confidence and tourism, which buoys a vibrant restaurant and retail scene. Many international and local businesses have invested in Gibraltar in the last few years for this reason. HNWIs with children especially are drawn to the level of safety enjoyed in Gibraltar.

HNWIs are also safe from surprise tax bills. Residency schemes such as Category 2 ensure tax payments remain fixed and provide clear rules as to which income falls within the scheme and which income falls outside. Clear rules and predictable tax bills allow HNWIs to plan their finances with confidence.

This is more so as Gibraltar’s well-regulated, common law derived legal environment provides many vehicles with which to safeguard wealth. Many opt for Gibraltar trusts managed by professional service providers such as Line Group, Hassans’ sister company, who have decades of experience in managing such structures.

Finally, whilst geopolitics flare worldwide, Gibraltar is entering into a new chapter of its political life with the implementation of the Treaty with the European Union, currently set for 15 July. The Treaty provides a robust and practical relationship with the EU going forward, with benefits including visa-free travel to the Schengen Area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period and exempting Gibraltar residents from the incoming EU Entry and Exit System and ETIAS. The Treaty is also bringing greater security measures to the Rock, namely a significant increase in CCTV in public areas which have already began to be installed.

If, like many HNWIs, Gibraltar seems like the right place for you in these uncertain times, contact the Hassans' Tax Advisory team for a free consultation to explore all that Gibraltar has to offer.
