Selwyn Figueras is a barrister and a partner at Hassans. He assists individuals and families considering a move to Gibraltar, and works with Hassans’ Private Client and Tax teams to guide them through residency and relocation, including under the recently updated rules relating to Category 2 individuals as well as in respect of the HEPSS status. With the team, he assists with the structures through which wealth is held and protected.

Selwyn served as a Member of the Gibraltar Parliament from 2011 to 2015 and has remained closely involved in the jurisdiction’s public life since, which gives clients a clear reading of Gibraltar’s law, its institutions and its direction, including the new framework governing Gibraltar’s relationship with Europe and the opening of the frontier further to provisional implementation (as at 15 July 2026) of the recently signed Treaty on Gibraltar’s relationship with the EU entered into by the U.K. and the EU on 14 July 2026.

He first joined Hassans in 2001, working with the tax and property finance teams, and returned to the firm in 2019.

He writes regularly on Gibraltar’s law, its politics and its place in the world, including a recent personal account of the opening of the frontier.  You can follow him by visiting his LinkedIn Profile, or catch up with his latest insights on this website, listed below.
