KPMG eSummit 2024 - Charting the Next Decade for Gibraltar & the Gaming Industry

Hassans are delighted to have sponsored and been involved in the KPMG eSummit events this year.

The two day conference commenced with the Global Gaming Women's DEI on Wednesday 26th June with Louise Federico and Anna Buhler representing Hassans as table hosts leading important discussions and debates to encourage improvements for women in the workplace. Andrew Montegriffo also supported the event and took part in these important conversations.

The main event took place on Thursday 27th June with the Hon. Nigel Feetham KC MP opening the conference. We were very encouraged to hear him announce ‘that the final amendments to the Gambling Bill have been made and we hope to publish this shortly, before taking the Bill to Parliament in the early Autumn. We intend to go live with aspects of what will then be a new Gambling Act as soon as practicable, during the first quarter of 2025.’

Hassans' long standing gaming law expert Peter Montegriffo KC took part in the first panel session in the main room, joining fellow local industry leaders, where he contributed on the topic of ‘Gibraltar Reflections’.

Andrew Montegriffo followed on a separate panel session sharing his insights on ‘Key Drivers - The Legal Perspective’. He updated the audience on recent legal updates which are relevant and affect the Gambling industry in Gibraltar.

The Hassans' Breakout room was very well attended with Louise and Anna hosting and introducing the panel sessions and power presentations throughout the day, as well as Louise presenting to the delegates on ‘A New Act for a New Era…Anticipated Changes to Gibraltar Gambling Act’ garnering a large audience. Interest in this area is strong and given the Minister's announcement on timing of the new Act, we expect to see a lot more engagement in this area in the not too distant future.

In this regard, our Hassans team are available to address any queries you may have. The new Gambling Act will bring into scope new activities which will require licensing and regulatory oversight.

We would like to also share that in lieu of gifts for the attendees, Hassans are delighted to have donated £2000 to Cancer Relief Gibraltar which we will be presenting to them in the coming weeks.

The Summit ended on a huge high with a wonderful reception at the Bistro Point Restaurant located on the southern most tip of Gibraltar hosted by His Majesty's Government of Gibraltar. Beautiful weather and a stunning view ensured that the delegates were left with not only a sense of a bright future of the gambling industry in Gibraltar, but also rewarded with some sunshine after two productive days of conferencing.

Looking forward to next year already!
