Shane joined Hassans in April 2024. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Middle Temple in November 2018 and was admitted as a Barrister of the Supreme Court of Gibraltar in February 2020.

Since Shane’s admission to the Gibraltar Bar, he has established a busy common law practice. His instructions extend across various areas of contentious practice such as Crime, Public & Administrative law, personal injury, clinical negligence and Landlord & Tenant. Shane also accepts instructions in employment disputes and appears before the Employment Tribunal. In addition, he has experience in Insolvency and Bankruptcy. Shane often assists senior members of the dispute resolution team with high-value commercial and admiralty disputes.

A significant proportion of Shane’s instructions relate to matters in the criminal arena with regular appearances before the Juvenile, Magistrates’ and Supreme Court. He has notable experience in acting for juveniles in relation to an array of offences including, robbery, burglary, possession of controlled drugs and Offences against the Person.

Shane also appears before the Criminal Courts for adult defendants charged with offences varying in seriousness and type. Shane  has experience in conducting Jury Trials, notably securing acquittals for an adult Defendant indicted in relation to a high profile violent disturbance. His Criminal Defence work includes sexual offences, serious thefts, frauds and burglaries. Shane has a keen interest in building a practice in financial crime.

Shane also has experience in claims for judicial review. He has a particular interest in Public law.

Shane has also forged a niche practice in representing patients appealing their admission to an approved mental health facility pursuant to the Mental Health Act 2016. In this regard, he frequently appears as counsel for patients before the Mental Health Review Tribunal.

Shane’s practice boasts instructions from various departments across different Ministries of His Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar.

Shane also has experience in Immigration law having previously represented Asylum seekers.

Outside of work, Shane is a keen sportsperson having played rugby for a local club and enjoys watching football.
