The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) took place in Gibraltar last week, continuing a proud tradition of raising both funds and awareness for the Special Olympics, which are held every June.
Hassans has supported the LETR for many years, standing alongside law enforcement bodies in their efforts to celebrate and empower individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. The LETR is known as the “Guardian of the Flame”, with representatives from the police, fire service, and other law enforcement agencies carrying the Flame of Hope to the opening ceremony of the Games.
This year’s event was a resounding success, with over 40 athletes competing in various events across Athletics, Futsal, Bocce, Bowling and Swimming.
A special congratulations goes to Dario Vassallo, the 15-year-old son of Line Group’s (Hassans’ fiduciary arm) Liana Vassallo, who took part in the Games and proudly brought home three medals:
🏅 Gold in the swimming relay
🥈 Silver in the 25m freestyle
🥈 Silver in the 50m freestyle
Dario lives with an extremely rare metabolic condition that significantly affects his physical development, requiring extensive care and complex medication.
Liana shared her heartfelt thoughts:
“These Games are so important for the esteem and motivation of those facing disabilities. Daily life is a struggle, and their training and the goals they set themselves help them remain positive and achieve a sense of self-fulfilment. Gibraltar is an amazing place with huge compassion, but there is always more we can do for those with mental and physical difficulties. I will continue to strive for more for my child and for other families facing — or who will face — similar challenges.”
We applaud all the athletes, families, and supporters who took part and extend our thanks to the organisers of the LETR and Special Olympics Gibraltar. Your efforts continue to inspire our community.
