Grahame moved to Hassans in 2004 to work in the funds department and began his training to become a solicitor. In 2020 he completed the Chartered Institute of Taxation’s Advanced Diploma in International Taxation.

Hannah Lopez

Hannah joined Hassans in 2019 and became an Associate with the firm in 2021. Hannah forms part of the Financial Services team and has rapidly built a name for herself amongst clients and peers alike for her expertise in advising the FinTech industry.

At the beginning of 2022, Hannah was invited to participate in a panel as part of Startup Grind Gibraltar’s Women’s Month, a session which supported and celebrated leading women and female founders. She spoke about the opportunities to build companies that scale globally in Gibraltar, the key things to think about before launching a project and the Gibraltar regulatory environment.

Throughout the last six months alone, Hannah has contributed to Thomson Reuter’s Regulatory Intelligence publishing an AML Country Update for Gibraltar and to Lexology’s Digital Business Guide for Gibraltar. She has also featured in the Gibraltar Magazine.

Hannah graduated with a first-class honours in International Law LLB before completing the Bar Professional Training Course. Hannah now advises on legal and regulatory matters relating to DLT, E-Money and Payment Services, to name a few. She also advises on cross-border regulatory implications and banking regulatory matters.

Karl Ghio

Karl joined Hassans in 2012 and was made Partner on 1st July 2021.

Karl initially graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a Masters in Pharmacy with Upper Second Class Honours and thereafter worked as a community pharmacist in the United Kingdom for seven years. He later chose to read law and attained the Graduate Diploma in Law from Nottingham Trent University. After completing the Bar Vocational Course from BPP University Law School in Leeds, Karl was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2011, and the Gibraltar Bar in 2012. Karl is also a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn.

Over the last 10 years Karl has developed a niche practice in large real estate development finance transactions and construction law matters, acting for lenders and developers on transactions involving Gibraltar’s largest real estate developments.

Tania Rahmany

Tania joined Hassans in 2015 and has rapidly garnered much respect for her corporate and commercial advisory and transactional work, advising multinational corporate groups and high net worth individuals alike.

A strong believer in the ability of the law to incite change and shape societies, Tania is an advocate for sustainability in its many forms. Tania regularly assists with drafting local legislation, mostly relating to the environment and animal welfare.  She was a driving force behind the launch of the Hassans Environmental Policy,  including Hassans’ Environmental Trust, and regularly assists the Department of the Environment of HM Government of Gibraltar on matters of environmental law and advising on mechanisms for the financing and trading of climate-related projects.

Last year Tania was accepted as part of the Futures Forward Academy which is closely aligned to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The participants each identified a tangible change they felt they could make and received leadership, training, mentoring, and support to work towards these goals. You can listen to a podcast with Tania, and fellow Hassans’ colleague Chris Buttigieg here.

Tania is also passionate about eradicating gender bias, and feels strongly about encouraging all women, and men, to challenge inequality, call out bias, question stereotypes, and help forge an inclusive world. She is regularly invited to sit on panels in relation to equality in the workplace and gender equality. A recent interview with Tania can be seen here.

Anthony Provasoli

Anthony, Partner in the firm since 2015 could be classed as one of the earliest, if not the earliest, adopter of “crypto” in Gibraltar and is now regularly invited to speak at high-profile FinTech events across the world.

Around 8 years ago, when Anthony was working on developing potential new work streams, he started reading as much material as he could to gain a better understanding of cryptocurrencies and the blockchain, a subject matter which many had not heard about at the time. Very quickly, a conversation with a client regarding the setting up of a Bitcoin exchange in Gibraltar kickstarted heightened interest in the sector. Further research led to meetings with other industry players, regulators and government officials and the realisation that “crypto” and the underlying technology would play an important part in financial services going forward.

Due to his largely unrivalled knowledge of the sector, Anthony has been influential in developing the industry and has played an integral role in positioning Gibraltar, more affectionately known as the “Blockchain Rock”, as a hub for crypto and virtual assets related activity.

Darren Martinez

Darren is a Partner in the firm’s litigation department with a focus on commercial disputes, insolvency, regulatory and more recently crypto-currency/distributed technology ledger law.

Whilst he appears regularly in the Supreme Court of Gibraltar, his practice also sees him frequently dealing with cross-border matters, with lawyers and clients from other jurisdictions. Recently he has been involved in cases with Dutch, Maltese, Danish, Swiss and Latvian lawyers.

Darren was called to the Bar in England and Wales and keeps a keen eye on legal developments in that jurisdiction. He regularly works with UK based specialist barristers.
